Highlights of WYSL Rule Changes and Clarifications- Fall 2010

The following summary highlights the WYSL rule changes and clarifications and certain key dates for Fall 2010. This summary is not complete and is qualified in its entirety by the actual rules set forth in the WYSL’s Handbook, to which reference is made. 

Updates and Seasonal Changes
Roster Changes. Article I.2.C. Deadline for roster changes and additions is the fourth scheduled game of the season (October 3, changes must be made by October 1).
Silent Sunday. Article IV(6). This season, Silent Sunday will be in effect for the games to be played on October 3, 2010, the fourth scheduled Sunday of the season.
Scheduling of TBS Games. Article X.3. TBS games must be scheduled before the third scheduled game of the season (i.e., by October 1).
Permanent Changes/Clarifications (minor changes omitted)
Technical Area”. Article II.5. A reference to a ten-yard “buffer” between teams at midfield, which will be reserved for player substitutions, was added to approximate a more formal technical area and to help referees keep order.
Roster Limits. Article IV.3. The authority of the League President to waive any roster limits for good cause was clarified.
Soccer Shoes. Article V.1.D. A rule was added to codify the existing practice of requiring soccer shoes with molded cleats.
Forfeits in Advance of Match. Article VI.4. A team giving a notice of forfeiture in advance of a match must email referee assignor (wsroassignor@gmail.com) and the League Scheduler as well as the opposing team and the League office. The League Scheduler was also added to the list of persons receiving advance notice of a forfeit under Article VI.2.
Postponements. Article X.1. The rule has been re-written. College showcases, school events and religious holidays and events have been added as permitted excuses. The notice period has been lengthened to 10 business days, and documentation of the request required for all but State Cup conflicts.
On-Field Cancellations. Article XI.4. The President has been given authority to make exceptions to the general rule that a game terminated in progress will be replayed from the beginning.
Rescheduling Cancelled Games. Article XI.3. The rule was clarified that if a Sunday’s slate is pulled and the League determines that the games are to be rescheduled, the teams must do this as with any make-up games.
