The 2011-2012 Westchester Youth Soccer League Select Program offers a unique opportunity for the most talented and committed players within Westchester to come together and train as a group and then attend up to three competitive summer tournaments. WYSL Select is not meant to replace your club team. It is a supplemental training program meant to provide aspiring players an additional opportunity to improve and compete at a higher level of play. Over the last 30 years, WYSL Select has helped hundreds of players build their skills and personal character, preparing many of them for the transition to the high school and collegiate level of athletics.
This past season just over 350 WYSL boys and girls competed on 12 Select Teams. For this season boys and girls training groups will be formed from U8 to U14 and a high school training group made up of U15-U17 players . U11-high school training groups are formed by tryouts. Tryouts for these teams will begin on Monday, September 19th. A full try out schedule has been posted below and an email announcement will be sent directly to all age appropriate WYSL registered players.
There is also a Developmental Program for U8, U9, and U10 players. An email announcement will also be sent directly to all age appropriate WYSL players. These ages do not tryout and can enroll directly into the program. Training begins 10/3. Training will be geared to technical ball skill development, building fundamentals within a small-sided game format. Due to field constraints registration for the developmental program will be limited to the first 40 players per age, per gender. Once this target level has been reached registration will be closed for this group and closed out players will be placed on a wait list. If space does become available these players will be contacted on a first come first serve basis.
Training sessions are on Monday evenings in the fall and spring, culminating with three summer tournaments in June / July for U11-U14 players and at least on tournament for highs chool teams. Tournament teams are formed based upon commitment to practice, skill level and player availability. Torunament players will be chosen to attend a minimum of one tournament. Developmental U8-U10 players will play in an interleague scrimmage or a similar type event.
Select boys normally train at Tibbetts Park in Yonkers and girls at Saxon Woods in White Plains. Players invited into the program are trained by some of the most highly qualified staff in the area under the US Youth Soccer national training curriculum. The Select Program has a policy of honoring WYSL club team rosters, with a zero tolerance policy concerning player poaching. As with all League officals, the Program staff are strictly prohibited from inducing a player registered to a WYSL club team to leave his or her team and transfer to another WYSL club team.
