Accepting Soccer Gear Donations for Rwanda & Photos

As mentioned at the end of season meeting on November 29, the WYSL is collecting donations of used soccer gear for donation to youth in Rwanda.  Almost 30% of all children in Rwanda are orphans as a result of civil war and ethnic conflict.  A New Rochelle-based charity, Esther's Aid for Needy and Abandoned Children, has been collecting donations of clothing, medical supplies and educational materials and ships these donations periodically to Rwanda.

New Rochelle and Scarsdale High Schools have donated "retired" team uniforms, and WYSL individuals and clubs are donating used soccer equipment.  We are collecting used balls, cleats, shinguards, socks, warms up suits, goalie gear, nets, referee uniforms, coaching books and other soccer gear.  The next shipment will be going in mid January 2006.  Donations can be dropped at the WYSL office at 271 North Ave, Suite 206, New Rochelle (Esther's Aid is based in the office next door).

Information on Esther's Aid is available at www.esthersaid.org.

Several WYSL clubs have been collecting used uniforms, balls, cleats, shinguards and other soccer gear for donation to Esther's Aid Society, a New Rochelle based charity that sponsors a school for orphaned children in Rwanda.  The attached photos show teams in Rwanda wearing uniforms donated from New Rochelle and Scarsdale.  Additional uniforms and gear can be collected and brought to the WYSL office.
