WYSL Fall 2015 Preliminary Schedule

WYSL teams

Ready for soccer?   We hope so!  Attached is the PRELIMINARY Schedule for the Westchester Youth Soccer League Fall 2015 season.  It will be posted on the WYSL website and I will post updates as they occur.
Do NOT make final plans based on this schedule. There will be many changes before the FINAL.  Tell the teams!

The percentage of teams with shared coaches is high but holding steady at 44%. There are fewer time requests (thank you). Note: this is fall with less daylight and we have four Sundays after DST ends instead of three.  Only some clubs give me enough field time to spread out the games. Some field information and changes came in very, very late. So there are at least a dozen coach coords which simply weren't possible and many others which are tighter than I would like.

Read carefully. Things change!! This (long) email will answer many questions you and your teams have. Don't ask a question until you have read the entire email.
If there is a question, ask. I make mistakes. I am not always clear. We want this schedule to be correct.  It will make our work (as organizers) easier and make the kids' life on the field more fun.

Here is your TO DO list.

* Check the schedule and -  within a week - by Tuesday September 1st  - email me any mistakes you find. There are *always* mistakes. I can't avoid them...  and it makes you look.  ;-)   Get help from your club.
There will be changes to adjust field usage and to correct for last minute problems. If you have suggestions for better use of your fields without changing game times, tell me. I like suggestions.

* Everyone: send your responses to me by email *as you see things*. Don't wait. It's a rolling correction process.

* Do NOT send any new schedule requests no matter how important. (Coach coordination, wedding day, problem with early games, etc.) The prelim is done, it's too late.  Earlier next time.  Refer to the league rules for exceptions.  I’ve attached a “Bullet Points” of the schedule rules for reference.

* Tell me if you made a request about a particular day and I missed it or messed it up!  Things happen.  Don't assume the problem is unavoidable. (I'll tell you if it is.)  Ask me, please. I want to honor all specific day requests and get the coach cords as good as they can be. (Not perfect)  Your coach may have to leave a game immediately and will have barely enough time to arrive just before the start of the next game (only half an hour or 45 minutes - within a town sometimes just 15). S/he will often not have time for a post game or pre-game talk. This is the best I can do.

Please plan backup coverage for your professional coaches. Assistant coaches can warm up the team, set the lineup, and possibly start the game with the coach driving into the parking lot. (Please tell the coach to drive safely. )  An old manager's trick: if parking is a big issue on a particular field, have someone meet the coach as close as s/he can get to the field and park the coach’s car while the coach gets to the team. (If the coach will trust one of the parents with his/her car!!)

I use Google Maps.  If I haven't allowed enough time to get from whistle to whistle, let me know. But I may still say "I'm sorry". November Sundays were impossible to manage completely.

* I think all single day requests are good. I know they can be important. I spend more time on requests than on setting the fixtures (not including gathering information beforehand and all the emails). Don't suffer in silence if you think I made a mistake.

* All general requests (prefer early, prefer late, etc.) should be 80% or better.  Older teams have to play early to use the early morning field time. Coach cords take precedence over the general time requests.   I hope I handled the requests which are truly important for getting the teams on the field.

* The games on 9/13 are as early as they can be. It was very difficult to push the schedule early. Warn your families that this is an unusual day.  Coaches may not make their games because of the need for early games.  It was a tough choice.

* For clubs with little field space (you know who you are), get me more so I can adjust game times to fit the coach needs and give you more home games. For clubs who found extra space and time and have fields “until dark”, thanks!

* Please check for your team, see if the games are there.

* Check the fields and field restrictions.

* Make sure all your teams are there too. (It has happened.)

* Note any gaps or overlaps in the schedule.

* Check your requests!

* PREMIER Teams and clubs. Please check your Sunday schedule including any coach coordinations.

The final schedule will be posted on the weekend prior to the season.

Divisions with 6, 8, or 11 teams have a 10 game schedule.
Divisions with 9 or 10 teams have *9* games. They will NOT be scheduled for November 22nd. But keep your families ready to play on 11/22!!! You may need it for makeup games.

One division with 12 teams has an 11 game schedule.

The U8 divisions do not have a "Festival" this season.  Stand by for more information about Spring.

I count 710 teams (not including those playing some form of premier league). The schedule currently includes 3528 games including "byes" and Sunday premier games (included to keep track of field use and referees).

There are 40 "TBS" games for teams in divisions with an odd number of teams added to make up for the byes. There are six TBS games for the one 12 team division.
The TBS games MUST be played during the season.  They are not optional. Schedule them with your opponent like a make up game. Play them early in the season.

There may be a couple of TBA games when neither team had enough field space for the game. If you can find a field, tell me. Get them scheduled and played sometime.

The number of home and away games is pretty balanced. But some clubs with tight field space have fewer home games. If your club lost it's field space for a Sunday or two, expect to play away more.

When final,  the schedule will be uploaded to the league website and will be available division by division or club by club.

NOTE: Only you can thoroughly check this schedule. Mistakes will cost you in lost time, disappointed kids, and annoyed parents. We need dozens of good eyes looking for mistakes.  It takes everyone in a  soccer community to run a good league.
Thanks for reading all the way to here and thanks for your help!
